Innovating approches to the generation of intense magnetic field: Optimization of a permanent magnet flux source

Abstract
The aim of this study is to design and optimise an original permanent magnet flux source, in order to generate a magnetic field of several Tesla. One of the innovating aspect of this project is the use of the ponctual dipôle principle (intense field) instead of the infinite dipôle principle (homogeneous field). After the analytical model optimisation, the structure have been discretized to be realizable, using real magnet. An other innovating aspect is the magnetical and geometrical optimization of the combination of different hard magnetic material (Neodymium-Iron-Boron magnet) and also soft magnetic material (Cobalt-Iron). The magnet configuration is optimised with the help of numerical simulation sofware developped in the LEG (DIPOLE-3D, FLUX2D et FLUX3D). The model of flux source creates a field over 4.3 T in a volume of diameter 6 mm and height 2.8 mm with an external diameter of 100 mm.
